Face spoofing detection using surface and sub-surface reflections analysis

Reflection based analysis has been used in previous research for various objectives. Materials classification is one of them. Basically, each material consists two types reflections: surface and sub-surface. To separate these reflections, polarized light could be applied. Previously, multi-reflections characteristics were analyzed using to classify objects such as between metals non-metals. However, no trial done the same method distinguish real fake faces that combat spoofing attempts face biometric system. Since human skin multi layers structure, it also produces reflections. In this paper, driven by theory, sub-surface reflections both genuine paper mask statistically examined. addition, iPad displayed images attempts. Images captured under different polarization angles: 0 90 degrees. Each angle with accordingly. Those on mean, standard deviation, skewness kurtosis. Modality distribution image was studied another called bimodality coefficient (BC). From results, not possible printed photos because reflections’ similarities. have successfully identified trials.
